Simple Profile Evaluation for Canada PR (for FSW, not CEC)
I) Basic Introduction:
- Canada PR process happens through an online system called Express Entry (EE) which is a Points based invitation process once you create your file in their portal.
- The points system is called CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) Score.
- Canada usually conducts EE draws two times in a month, which are 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month and they invite about 3000 to 5000 people in each draw.
- There are various types of Express Entry Draws; the significant categories of draws for you are:
- General/All Programs Draw,
- STEM Occupations Draw,
- Healthcare and Social Services Draw,
- Education/Teaching Occupations Draw,
- Trade Draw (Cooks, Construction Managers, etc.),
- French Language Proficiency Draw,
- Canadian Experience Class Draw, and
- PNP Specific Draw.
- Applicants with higher CRS scores get an invitation sooner than those with lower CRS scores, because there is a cut-off system for Draws.
- It means, as an applicant, you should have your CRS score higher than the current Cut-Off in the EE draws in order to get your ITA (Invitation To Apply).
- Those applicants whose CRS scores are lower and cannot get Direct Federal ITA, they can still hope for PR through PNP. Provinces too have various categories of PNP programs based on occupations and job offer; the significant PNP programs for you without the need of job offer are:
- Ontario Express Entry Tech Draw,
- Ontario Express Entry Healthcare Draw,
- *Alberta Family Connections Draw,
- *Alberta Express Entry Occupations in Demand Draw,
- Saskatchewan Express Entry Draw, &
- Saskatchewan Occupations in Demand Draw
* Temporarily paused in March-2025
- PNP is a Nomination from any 1 province of Canada out of its 10 provinces. If you get PNP, it will increase your CRS score by 600 points and thus you will definitely get Federal ITA and Visa.
- So the flow of steps for Canada PR process is like this:
Option 1:
Create your EE file, then get direct Federal ITA from any one of the above type of Federal Draws, pay the fees and submit rest of your documents after ITA, wait for Visa to arrive.
(Or)
Option 2:
Create your EE file, create your PNP files, Get an Invitation to apply from any one province, submit file and get a nomination certificate from that Province (PNP), then get Federal ITA, pay the fees and submit rest of your documents after ITA, wait for Visa to arrive. - If both Husband and wife are graduates and if both of them can attempt IELTS/PTE/CELIP, they should apply for PR together and immigrate at once. In such a case the following preference order should be followed:
- Whoever can score CLB 9 (8777 in IELTS) should become main applicant.
- Whoever is youngest in Age should become main applicant.
- Whoever has highest education (Master’s Degree) should become main applicant.
- All the family will be able to apply and immigrate at a time keeping one spouse as main applicant and other spouse and children as dependents. Both, husband and wife will get equal rights and privileges once you land in Canada, irrespective of who was the main applicant and who were the dependents.
- The accompanying spouse cannot travel to Canada before the main applicant. Either both of them have to enter at a time or the main applicant can go first. Later on after receiving PR cards, anyone can stay and anyone can leave and re-enter Canada without depending on each other.
- There are CRS points for Main applicant’s Age, Education, Work Experience and English test scores; and there are CRS points for the spouse’s Education and IELTS. There are no points for Spouse’s Age and Work Experience.
- If the accompanying spouse joins the main applicant without his/her Education and IELTS, there will be a shortage of 28 points to the main applicant, which may cause problem for him/her to receive ITA. Hence, we advise that if the spouse is accompanying, he/she must attempt IELTS and must be a graduate get WES ECA done. In case the spouse is not a graduate and cannot attempt IELTS at all, we advise that the main applicant should apply single and reach Canada first, and then sponsor the spouse and children immediately after reaching Canada. Such a sponsorship is called ‘Family Class Sponsorship’ and it doesn’t require Education and IELTS for the spouse. It takes 6 to 12 months to sponsor dependent family members in this way.
II) Parameters for CRS Scoring:
- There are 4 important parameters based on which your CRS score is generated, these are: Age, Education, Work Experience and English Test Scores (IELTS General or PTE Core or CELPIP General).
A) Main Applicant/Primary Applicant:
1) Age: Till the age of 29 years, you will get 110 points (if single) and 100 points (if couple); after 29 years, there is a reduction of 5 points per year. (You can create your file up to 47 years of age.)
2) Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree holder gets 120 points (if single) and 112 points (if couple)
- Two or More Degrees Holder gets 128 points (if single) and 119 points (if couple) + 25 common STF points (Skill transferability points) = Total 153 points (if single) and 144 points (if couple),
- A Master’s Degree holder gets 135 points (if single) and 126 points (if couple) + 25 common STF points = Total 160 points (if single) and 151 points (if couple),
- A PhD holder gets 150 points 9 (if single) and 140 points (if couple) + 25 common STF points = Total 175 (if single) and 165 points (if couple).
3) Work Experience:
- There are 25 STF points for showing 3 years of work experience, same points for both single and couple files.
4) English Language Test Scores: The accepted English Tests are IELTS (General), PTE (Core), and CELPIP (General).
- Minimum score required to become eligible in Express Entry to create Canada PR file is CLB 7, it gives you 68 points (if single) and 64 points (if couple).
- The Good score for Saskatchewan PNP is CLB 8.
- The Golden score for Express Entry that you should plan to get is CLB 9, it gives you 124 points (if single) and 116 points (if couple) + 50 common STF points = Total 174 points (if single) and 166 points (if couple).
- The Maximum score you can get is CLB 10, it gives you 136 points 9 (if single) and 128 points (if couple) + 50 common STF points = Total 186 Points (if single) and 174 points (if couple). There are 3 points per CLB increment per individual module.

B) Accompanying Spouse:
There are 2 important parameters with which an accompanying spouse can contribute in the CRS score of main applicant; these are: Education and English Test Scores.
1) Spouse’s Education:
- A Secondary or Senior-secondary certificate (SSC/Intermediate) of spouse gets 2 points.
- A one year post secondary diploma certificate of spouse gets 6 points,
- A two years post secondary diploma certificate of spouse gets 7 points,
- A Bachelor’s degree holder gets 8 points,

2) Spouse English Language Test Scores:
- With CLB 4 or lesser bands, the spouse gets Zero points.
- With CLB 5 or even with CLB 6, the spouse gets 4 points.
- With CLB 7 or even with CLB 8, the spouse gets 12 points.
- With CLB 9, the spouse gets 20 Points. ((Maximum IELTS/PTE/CELPIP points for Spouse are 20. No more points for CLB 10)
III) Current Trend of Invitations:
Note that the ultimate aim of any Canada PR process applicant is to get Federal ITA once you create Express Entry file. ITAs can either be obtained i) Directly in Federal Draws if you have your CRS score that meets the Federal Cut-Off or ii) After obtaining Provincial Nomination Certificate because PNP adds 600 CRS points to your previous CRS score and thus your new CRS score after PNP will so high that you will definitely get Federal ITA in the immediately upcoming draw.
- If your CRS score is above 480, you will get Direct Federal ITA in All Programs Draws.
- If your CRS score is above 460 and if your occupation is from the STEM category, you will get Direct Federal ITA in STEM Draws.
- If your CRS score is above 420 and if your occupation is from the Healthcare and Social Services category, you will get Direct Federal ITA in Healthcare Draws.
- If your CRS score is between 350 to 460, you might get PNP of Ontario (Tech or Healthcare Draws) or Alberta through Express Entry, and then you will later get Federal ITA.
- This year, since the Education (Teachers) and Trades (Cooks, Construction Managers) are the newly added categories, you might get the federal invitation in these categories if your CRS is at least above 420.
- Saskatchewan PNP: If your CRS score is below 350, you may not get Direct Federal ITA or PNP of Ontario and Alberta. However, your Express Entry file can be created and then you can try Saskatchewan PNP (SINP) whose points system is as follows:
SINP is a different PNP program which is not related to express entry. It has its own point system which is like this:
- There are total 70 points for factors like Age, Education, work Experience and English test scores.
- Of these 70 points, 60 points is the minimum score required to create file in SINP.
- Usually, people with at least 65 points or above get Invitation from Saskatchewan.
- Age: Up to 34 years, there are 12 points. From 35 years to 44 years, there are 10 points.
- Education: For Bachelor’s Degree, there are 20 points, for a Master’s Degree, there are + 3 points = Total 23 points.
- Work Experience: For 5 years of experience, there are 10 points, from 6 years to 10 years of experience, there are +5 points = Total 15 points.
- English Test Scores: For CLB 8 in each module, there are 20 points. For CLB 7, there are 18 points.
(There are few additional points if you have a close relative living in Saskatchewan and for French as second language)
(The points in SINP have to be earned only by the main applicant, spouse need not do anything. If main applicant is eligible, all family members can join in the SINP application.)
IV) Your CRS Score Examples:
In the blanks below, you can enter your details and calculate your CRS score according to the points details we explained above.

V) Steps, Expenditure and Timeline:
These are the next steps that you should do to start the PR process:
- The first step is Embassy Immigration’s enrolment. Our fee is charged only to the main applicant, there is no separate fee for accompanying spouse and children.
- Then WES ECA of education: it is an equivalency report that you have to obtain from World Education Services by sending your transcripts from your university to WES Canada. It costs about Rs. 25,000/- per applicant. Both husband and wife should get the ECA of their education.
- Then get your English test scores: IELTS General or PTE Core or CELPIP, costs about INR 18,000/- per applicant. Both husband and wife have to attempt this test. However, the responsibility of scoring CLB 9 in English test lies upon the main applicant only, the other spouse need not score CLB 9.
- Then we will create your Express Entry and SINP files: Here your CRS score will be generated.
- Then PNP process (Optional step/if needed): Ontario and Alberta (CAD 1500 = INR 90,000) or Saskatchewan (CAD 350); to be paid by the main applicant only.
- Then you will get Federal ITA valid for 60 days to submit full file:
- After getting federal ITA, you and your spouse will obtain your PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) (INR 500/- for each adult, child exempted). PCC required for spouse even when the spouse is not accompanying.
- then start arrangement of employment proofs.
- proof of funds in your bank. (As per family size even if family members are not accompanying. Check table below for funds vs family details).
- then pay Embassy fee and biometrics fee for all members included in application. It is CAD 1610 per adult (INR 1,00,000/-) and CAD 260 per child.
- then submit the complete file online.
- then you will get a request for medical and biometrics. You should go to VFS to give biometrics and go to approved medical centre to give medical tests for all family members (INR 5000 per applicant). Medical tests are required for spouse and children even when they are not accompanying.
- then wait for 6 months to get PR Visa and COPR which will usually be valid for 6 months
- then fly to Canada before expiry of your Visa and COPR
- then your PR card will be delivered at your house address in Canada which will be valid for 5 years
- Citizenship: After becoming a PR, if you live in Canada for three years out of five years, you will be able to apply for Citizenship and get a Canadian passport. And if you live in Canada for two years out of five years, you will be able to renew your PR Card for another five years.

67 POINTS ELIGIBILITY CALCULATOR
What is a 67 points calculator and what is a CRS score?
- The 67 points calculator is just an eligibility checking scale in which you should score at least 67 points out of 100 points in order to become eligible to apply for PR. Whereas; CRS score is a points system that gets you an ITA in Express Entry.
- It means, first you have to get 67 points to become eligible to create your PR file and then you should also get a good CRS score to receive ITA in EE.
- Usually, almost every one of us gets 67 points and qualifies to create Express Entry file; but as I said, the ultimate aim of any Canada PR process applicant is to get Federal ITA once you create Express Entry file, which is possible only when you have higher CRS score to meet the cut-off of draws, and not just by having 67 points.
- So don’t get influenced by any consultant saying that ‘you got 67 points and thus you are eligible for Canada PR’; rather you must look at how much CRS score are you getting if your put your best efforts, and is that CRS score sufficient for you to get any PNP or Federal ITA?! Or are you getting sufficient points in SINP to get its Invitation?!
The points system of 67 points eligibility calculator is as follows:
- Age: Up to 35 years, there are 12 points. From 36 years to 47 years, reduce -1 point per year.
- Education: (Minimum Education to become eligible to apply for Canada PR is Bachelor’s Degree)
- For Bachelor’s Degree, there are 21 points,
- For 2 or more Degrees, there is + 1 point = 22 points,
- For Master’s Degree, there are + 2 points = 23 points,
- For PhD, there are + 4 points = 25 points.
- Work Experience: (Minimum work experience required to become eligible for Canada PR is 1 year)
- For 1 year of experience, there are 9 points,
- For 2 to 3 years of experience, there are +2 points = 11 points,
- For 4 to 5 years of experience, there are +4 points = 13 points,
- For 6 years of above experience, there are +6 points = Total 15 points.
- English Test Scores: (Minimum score to become eligible to apply for Canada PR is CLB 7)
- For CLB 7 in each module; there are 4 points per module 4+4+4+4 = Total16 points for it.
- For CLB 8 in each module, there are 5 points per module 5+5+5+5 = Total 20 points for it.
- For CLB 9 in each module, there are 6 points per module 6+6+6+6 = Total 24 points for it.
(There are no more points for CLB 10 on this scale. 24 points are last).
- Additional Adaptability points: (Having these is not mandatory to be eligible. Out of these 15 points below you can claim any 10 points.)
- For having a Sibling in Canada, there are 5 points,
- If you have studied in Canada, there are 5 points,
- If your accompanying spouse has scored at least CLB 4 in IELTS (L4.5, R3.5, W4, S4), there are 5 points.
- There are 10 points if you have a job offer from Canada and 4 points for getting CLB4 in French as a Second language or vice versa with English.
Frequently asked questions:
Q1) What is the maximum CRS score and how much should I get to receive ITA?
A) The maximum CRS points are 1200. But the breakup of all these 1200 points is not important for you. The main competition is for 498 Core Factors Points which are of Age, Education, Work Experience and English Test Scores. From these points, you should try to score above 420 to get PNP and score above 475 to get Direct ITA.
Q2) What is an NOC or TEER code?
A) NOC stands for National Occupation Classification. Every work experience that you put in your PR application will have certain code which plays an important role in getting you an ITA or PNP. We will help you in selecting the right NOC and we will guide you in arranging documents regarding this. From November 2022, the new NOC system is launched and it is named as ‘TEER system’ which is similar to old NOC system in general terms. Technically, it has some minor changes which we will take care of; and for you, as an applicant, TEER system has no separate impact on your file in comparison to old NOC system.
Q3) Is there any fee that we have to pay to Canada to create Express Entry file?
A) No. Creating Express Entry file or Creating SINP file is free. There is no fee to pay at this stage. Fees have to be paid only after you get ITA.
Q4) Is there any fees of provinces for PNP?
A) Yes. You have to pay a nominal PNP processing fee only to that one province which has given you the invitation. No need to pay to all provinces. The PNP fees for Ontario and Alberta is CAD 1500/-, and for Saskatchewan PNP, it is CAD 350/-. Note that dependents do not need to pay fees, only principal applicant is charged PNP fees.
Q5) How much will it cost me for doing WES ECA? And WES is valid for how many years?
A) Usually the WES ECA will cost about INR 25,000/- for each applicant. WES is valid for 5 years.
Q6) What are the fees for IELTS General, PTE Core and CELPIP exams? And can I attempt Academic IELTS? And what is the validity period of these exams?
A) In 2025, The IELTS and PTE Core exam fees are Rs. 18,000/- and CELPIP exam fee is Rs. 12,797/-. You can choose to write any exam among IELTS or PTE Core or CELPIP. You cannot attempt ‘Academic IELTS’ or ‘PTE Academic’ for the purpose of PR application, only ‘General IELTS’ and ‘PTE Core’ are accepted. You can attempt Pen-Paper Based IELTS or Computer Based IELTS as per your convenience. CELPIP and PTE are available only in Computer Based mode. The validity is this exam is 2 years. Your express entry file expires if your test scores expire and then you will have to retake the exam to create your EE file.
Q7) What is the Embassy and Biometrics fee that I have to pay after getting ITA?
A) The total fee is CAD 1610/- = Rs. 1 lakh, Medical and PCCs would cost not more than Rs. 10,000/-. Hence total cost after ITA is about Rs. 1,10,000/- for each adult applicant and for children it would be CAD 260/-
Q8) When to do Medical and PCC? Can I do medical in my present country of residence if I am not living in India? PCC of how many countries is required? Do my kids require medical and PCC?
A) Medical: After submitting your file after ITA, IRCC will send you a request letter to do medical. You should do medical after they ask you. As of now, doing upfront medical after getting ITA is not allowed. You can do medical at any approved centre of Canada wherever you live.
PCC (Police Clearance Certificate): PCC should be submitted after receiving ITA only. You need to submit PCC of your Home Country (which is country of your Citizenship; example: India) and PCC from all those countries where you lived for more than 6 months in the past 10 years. If you lived in any country only for few days as a Tourist or Visitor Visa Holder, you don’t need PCC of that country. Medical tests are required for spouse and children in both accompanying and non-accompanying situations. Whereas, PCC is required only for spouse in both accompanying and non-accompanying situation; and minor children are exempted from PCC.
Q9) How much funding has to be shown as Proof of Funds? And when to show? If my spouse and kids are not accompanying me, can I show funds equal to one person?
A) The amount to show depends on family size as shown in the table on page 7. You need not show funds right from the beginning of your process. This can be done after you get ITA. We will inform you later about it. Proof of funds has to be shown as per family size, even when family members are not accompanying.
Q10) If I get married in the middle of my process, can I add my Spouse in my application?
A) Yes you can add your Spouse at any stage of the process. It will not cause any problem to your file. We will guide you about the requirements from spouse to add her anytime later. Note that the updated proof of funds, embassy fees, medical, PCC has to be provided for accompanying spouse.
Q11) I am married and I have kids. Can I apply alone as single applicant to gain more points? Or can I skip my husband but include my Children in my application?
A) Yes you can apply as single applicant alone or with your children but without including your spouse, if you provide valid reason for not including dependents in the application. You can get your PR first and sponsor your spouse later after reaching Canada. Usually, people apply like this when they find that their spouse is not a graduate and cannot attempt IELTS and thus by including spouse you are losing your CRS points and if you fear that you may not get ITA.
Q12) If Husband and wife both are equally educated, who should become main applicant?
A) Whoever scores 8777 in IELTS and whoever is younger in age should become main applicant. If both of them have scored well in IELTS and if there is not much difference in ages too, then we consider creating two files: one file with husband as a main applicant and wife as dependent, and another file with wife as a main applicant and husband as a dependent. If we do like this, whomever’s NOC is in demand in any province or category based draws, they will get invitation first and we can continue the rest of the process with that invited file and withdraw the other uninvited file.
Q13) My Spouse has a sibling who is a Canadian PR or Citizen and I am the main applicant. Can I claim Sibling points if my spouse is not accompanying with me in my application?
You cannot claim sibling points if the Canadian sibling is a sibling of your spouse who is not accompanying you. You can claim these points only when your spouse is accompanying with you. Usually, in such cases, it is better for you to include your spouse in your application because you will get more CRS points than applying single.
Q14) If my wife is the main applicant and I am the accompanying spouse. Once we land together in Canada, can I send my wife and children back to India and can I stay back in Canada alone to find a job and settle down first, and then call my family back to Canada?
A) Yes. While entering Canada for the first time, you need to enter along with or after the entry of main applicant. Then you can send her back and you alone can stay back.
Q15) How many provinces can offer me the PNP?
A) There are 10 provinces in Canada but you are not eligible to apply PNP in all of them; because most of the provinces require you to get a job offer from the employer of that province. Practically, you can apply for PNP of these 4 provinces without any job offer from them, they are: Ontario (ON), Alberta (AB), Saskatchewan (SK) and Prince Edward Island (PEI). Even from these 4 provinces, you cannot hope for a PNP from PEI because they give very few invitations.
Hence, finally, we have these 3 provinces to expect PNP; they are: ON, AB and SK.
- Remember that Ontario PNP (called as OINP-HCP category) is an express entry dependent PNP. It means, you cannot go and apply for PNP on its portal, it is the province that will send you an invitation by finding you from Express Entry pool based on your CRS score.
- Alberta and Saskatchewan PNP (called as AAIP and SINP) is not dependent on express entry. It means, whether you are able to create file in EE or not, you can still go and apply Expression Of Interest (EOI) on their portal. They have their own points system and this province will invite you if they find your occupation and score good enough.
Q16) Is there any mandatory requirement like the number of days to stay in Canada after becoming PR of can I leave Canada and come back later?
A) Yes there is a Residency Obligation: If you live in Canada for 2 years out of these 5 years, you can maintain your PR status and you will be able to renew your PR card once again. If you live in Canada for 3 years, you will be able to apply for Passport of Canada.
You can leave Canada within few days after landing there for the first time as PR; and you can come back later as per your convenience. This is called as ‘Soft Landing’. Overall in 5 years of validity of your PR card, you should at least stay for 2 years, not necessarily at a stretch, but rather you can come and go as per your convenience and complete a residency of 730 days in 5 years.
Q17) Will you help me in finding accommodation and in finding job once I get Visa?
A) Yes we will guide you on how to find an accommodation and a job by yourself in Canada. We are not into HR and recruitment; hence we don’t want to guarantee you a job in Canada. We will do our best in showing you ways on how you can find a job by yourself. It is you who have to explore your options once you land in Canada.
Thanks and regards,
